Established in the fall of 2001, the Sylvania Police Division's Citizens Academy gives community members insight into the duties of law enforcement officers and the complexity of following a crime from reporting to prosecution.

The Citizens Academy meets once a week for ten weeks, two hours a day, in the fall. Taught by members of the Sylvania Police Division and field professionals, attendees are given the opportunity to see basic techniques used by officers, gain an understanding of the “how” and “why” of certain procedures, and see the capabilities of the various specialty areas of law enforcement.

Registration dates for the Citizens Academy are announced in the media and on this website. You must complete an application and agree to a background investigation. To register, you must be a resident of or employed in the City of Sylvania. Acceptance and enrollment are subject to the approval of the chief of police.
